Cacao beans ripen in approximately 30 centimetres long pods, growing on a cocoa tree (Theobroma cacao), which was a holy tree to Mayas and Aztecs. Twenty to sixty seeds hide in a pod, called cacao beans, and are surrounded by white meat. The meat is removed and beans are left fermenting naturally so that they lose some of their bitterness. Planet BIO cocoa beans are not roasted and thus retain most of the active substances.
Cacao beans contain twice as many antioxidants as red wine and 3 times more than green tea; most of them (10 %) is represented by flavonoids. Antioxidants in the cacao beans help the body in stressful situations and act preventively against cancerous and cardiovascular diseases.
Cacao beans are rich with minerals, especially magnesium, sulphur, potassium and calcium, and they also contain iron, chromium, potassium, calcium, zinc, copper, manganese and sodium.
