Guarana powder

Guarana

Guarana, a plant native to the Amazone basin, always played an important medical and dietary role among the native people of Amazon rainforest. It has been used especially for boosting energy during daily physical efforts and there are even native legends about it. However, our western civilization noticed guarana only after scientific researches, discovering the nutrients inside its black seeds.

The seeds contain many tannins, a few proteins and starch, but a substance, which makes guarana so interesting, is guaranin. Guaranin is actually almost identical to caffeine, which has a pretty bad reputation among people today. There’s a lot written about coffee being bad, and they mostly argument it with caffeine. Not a lot of people ask themselves, what caffeine truly is? Working as a diuretic, increasing energy, cleaning the vein system… – doesn’t hear bad at all, does it? The truth is, coffee is bad not because of caffein, but due to many other dangerous substances, that appear in it during the procedure of browning and further production of the final product.

Guaranin in guarana seeds occurs in a completely natural way and therefore can have many good benefits for our body. The biggest difference between caffeine found in coffee and guaranin is that guaranin is being absorbed much slower into our blood system. Therefore we feel its effect much longer and equally.

If we use guaranin in suitable amount it:

    • boosts energy and physical stamina
    • keeps us awake, that is why it is not recommended to use it before sleep
    • improves memory
    • can help us loosing overweight
    • cleans blood system
    • increases metabolism
    • works as an antioxidant
    • can increase sexual lust
    • helps with diarrhoea
    • can help with problems, appearing with arthritis

Of course it is important to know that there is moderation needed after all. Too much guaranin (same as caffeine) can have some side effects, such as upset stomach, headache, sleeplessness, nervousness, thrill and fast beating heart. To avoid those side effects, we should not exceed a dose of 1 gram at once. This dose will already provide a clean hit of energy, mental clarity and gentle excitement that usually lasts between 2-4 hours.

In spite of all advantages that guarana brings, we have to keep in mind that nature in her plan did not include exaggeration. If we make up for sleepless nights and unspent moments for relaxation with guarana, we can easily find ourselves in a vicious circle and become dependent upon it. That is why we should add guarana to various smoothies and other raw treats only when we really run out of time for ourselves in this crazy world!
