PlanetBIO Himalayan salt is a natural rock salt that primarily consists of sodium chloride, but also contains traces of other minerals. It is unrefined, uniodinized and more pure and unpolluted compared to sea salt. It can be used to enrich and intensify the flavor of all kinds of dishes.

Why PlanetBIO Himalayan salt?

Pure. Compared to sea salt, rock salt is isolated from pollution that can be a big problem in most of the oceans.

Unrefined & uniodinized. All the minerals in PlanetBIO Himalayan salt are there by nature. We did not add or take away anything – why would we change something that nature created so perfectly?

Free of fillers, anti-caking agents and other additives. Most conventional table salts contain different additives that prevent the clumps from forming. Not ours! PlanetBIO Himalayan salt is 100 % natural and free of any additives. The pink color of some of its grains is due to naturally present iron compounds.

Himalayan salt is a type of rock salt, originating from salt mines under the Pakistan Himalayas. It is a halite, a mineral form of sodium chloride that was formed a long time ago, when an ocean was still covering the area. All Himalayan salt is mined in Khewra salt mines in Pakistan, which is the second largest salt mine in the world. Unlike the sea salt, Himalayan salt has not been reached by pollution yet, so it is pure and free of pollutants.

Salt has been important for humans since ancient times, as it enabled conservation and storage of non-seasonal foods, a foundation of many great civilizations. Salt was a highly valued trade item, to the point of it being considered a form of currency. It was prized by the Hebrews, Greeks, the Chinese, Romans, Egyptians and other peoples of antiquity. As salt was difficult to obtain, it was long known as a symbol of power and wealth, while life today is difficult to imagine without it. There are two types of salt: sea salt which is produced by the evaporation of seawater, and rock salt which is obtained from salt mines. PlanetBIO Himalayan salt is a rock salt, but the chemical composition of both types is more or less similar, as the primary source of both is the sea. Besides NaCl, rock salt usually also contains other salts and minerals that are found at the salt mine in the ground.

PlanetBIO Himalayan salt comes from the Himalayan salt mines Khewra in Pakistan. It has not been refined or iodinized and is free from any chemical additives, anti-caking agents and fillers. All the minerals are there naturally and the pink color of some of its grains is due to naturally present iron compounds.

  • Unrefined & uniodized
  • Contains calcium and other minerals in traces
  • Free of heavy metals (checked with our own independent analysis)

Use PlanetBIO Himalayan salt as you would use any other salt. It enriches and intensifies the flavour of dishes, both salty and sweet. We recommend adding it to the meal after cooking.

PlanetBIO Himalayan salt can also be used to make salt sole. You can make salt sole by dissolving so much Himalayan salt in water that the water becomes saturated (approx. 3 tablespoons in a litre of water) – grains of salt will be left undissolved. Sole can be used as a bath or for external treatment of various issues, such as painful sinuses, problematic skin, inflammations and sore muscles.

High sodium intake is associated with higher blood pressure and a significantly greater risk of cardiovascular disease, so excessive intake of salt is to be avoided. We recommend eating less of processed foods that usually contain high amounts of low-quality refined salt and using PlanetBIO Himalayan salt in moderation.
